Leveling Systems & Hydraulic Jacks

Diagnosis and repair of hydraulic and electric leveling jacks, landing gear, and auto-leveling control systems.

What this service covers

A complete approach to the repair

Leveling systems get used every single stop, which makes them one of the more heavily worked mechanical systems on a coach. Hydraulic jacks fail from low fluid, a failing pump, worn seals that let a jack slowly settle overnight, or a stuck or leaking solenoid valve. Electric jacks common on towables fail from worn gearboxes, motor issues, or corrosion at the mounting points from road exposure.

Auto-leveling systems add a control module and sensor layer on top of the hydraulic or electric hardware, and we see failures where the system will not find level, cycles endlessly, or throws an error, which can be a sensor calibration issue as often as it is a jack hardware problem. We check both, testing individual jack function manually before trusting the automatic system's diagnosis of itself.

We also inspect and service the landing gear and stabilizer jacks common on fifth wheels, since these see constant load-bearing use and their gearboxes and motors wear from both use and Florida's humidity accelerating corrosion on exposed hardware. A jack that will not retract fully or that grinds during operation needs attention before it strands you at a campsite.

Signs you may need this service

Jack settles or drops slowly overnight after being set

One or more jacks will not extend or retract fully

Auto-leveling system cycles repeatedly without finding level

Grinding, straining, or clicking noise from a jack during operation

Visible hydraulic fluid leak near a jack or the pump reservoir

Error code or fault light on the leveling control panel

How we handle it

  1. 1

    Manual jack test

We test each jack individually for full extension, retraction, and holding pressure or position before trusting the automatic system.

  2. 2

    Hydraulic or electrical diagnosis

We check fluid level and condition, pump function, and solenoids on hydraulic systems, or motor and gearbox condition on electric jacks.

  3. 3

    Sensor and control check

For auto-leveling systems, we check sensor calibration and control module function to separate hardware faults from software faults.

  4. 4

    Repair and full cycle test

We repair the identified fault and run a complete leveling cycle to confirm all jacks respond correctly together.

Mobile or in-shop

Leveling system diagnostics and most jack repairs are done at your location since the coach needs to be in its normal resting position to properly test the system. Hydraulic pump or cylinder rebuilds are sometimes brought into the shop depending on the part availability and extent of the repair.

Questions we get

This is typically a hydraulic seal wearing internally, letting the jack slowly lose pressure and drop, which usually means the cylinder needs to be rebuilt or replaced.
