Advanced Diagnostics & Troubleshooting

Systematic troubleshooting for intermittent, hard-to-diagnose RV electrical, mechanical, and system faults.

What this service covers

A complete approach to the repair

Some problems do not show up cleanly. An issue that only happens after driving for a few hours, a fault that appears only in humid weather, or a system that fails intermittently and tests fine every time you bring it in are the kinds of problems that need a methodical diagnostic process rather than a quick parts swap. We approach these by gathering as much information as possible about when and how the fault occurs, checking connections and components under conditions that replicate the failure where we can, and using process of elimination across the systems that could plausibly be involved.

This often means checking things that seem unrelated at first: a slide that acts up only when the generator is running might point to a shared ground or power supply issue rather than a slide-specific fault, and an appliance that behaves oddly only during shore power transitions might point to a converter or transfer switch problem rather than the appliance itself.

We are upfront that intermittent faults sometimes take more than one visit to fully resolve, especially conditions that only appear under specific temperature, humidity, or vibration conditions we cannot always replicate on demand, and we communicate honestly about that rather than guaranteeing a fix we cannot be certain of on the first attempt.

Signs you may need this service

A fault that only happens intermittently or under specific conditions

Previous repair attempts elsewhere did not resolve the actual issue

System tests fine in the shop but fails again on the road

Multiple systems seem to be affected in ways that do not obviously connect

Fault only appears after extended driving, heat, or humidity exposure

Warning lights or error codes with no clear pattern

How we handle it

  1. 1

    Gather failure history

We discuss when, how, and under what conditions the problem occurs, including any prior repair attempts and their results.

  2. 2

    Replicate and isolate

We attempt to replicate the failure condition where possible and systematically test related systems to narrow down the cause.

  3. 3

    Cross-system verification

We check for shared causes across systems that seem unrelated, since intermittent faults often trace back to a common power, ground, or control source.

  4. 4

    Repair and confirm

We repair the identified fault and, where the issue was intermittent, discuss realistic expectations for confirming the fix holds under real conditions.

Mobile or in-shop

Diagnostics are often most effective done at your location, especially for faults tied to how the coach sits, drives, or is used day to day, since replicating real conditions matters. Some testing involving specialized shop equipment may require a visit to Bushnell.

Questions we get

Intermittent faults are genuinely difficult, and a shop that does not replicate the actual failure conditions can end up replacing parts that were not the real cause; we focus on understanding the pattern before touching anything.
